Happy New Beard

Over my Christmas vacation I decided to change my look. On the advice of my sister, I decided to grow a beard. Unfortunately, deciding to grow a beard and growing a beard are two entirely different things. I have a long history of poorly grown facial stylings. But I did it anyway. And, as usual, it didn't work out. But this time I'm maintaining a healthy scruff instead of just shaving it all off. I keep what facial hair I have trimmed and just hope that it'll grow in fuller.

What's In A Beard?
No, this isn't a section where I answer all of your questions on beards. This is the section where I ask questions and hope that the beard-wearing public can give me the info I need.

Soap or shampoo? The beard is pretty unique because it's part of the face, but also part of the hair. And so I ask you, do you wash your beard with soap or shampoo? Personally, I've been shampooing my scruff. I say, if you treat your beard like your hair, it'll respect you and grow in all the fuller.

When does stubble become scruff, become a beard? Just curious.

Why can't I grow sideburns?!!

Beards: A Growing Trend
Both David Letterman and Conan O'Brien grew awesome strike beards. Add me to that list and that's 3 awesome dudes with beards. Don't you want to be like us? There's like a 66% chance that you'd be a talk show host and a millionaire. Those are pretty good odds. Plus, you know, you wouldn't have to shave all the time.

All I'm saying is... think about it.

What? No picture? Can't wait to see the "stubble"/"scruff" this weekend.

I shampoo. Keeps it softer. Plus, I'm already in that area with the lather anyway, so it's just convenient.

As for trimming the scruff, that's not recommended. You are supposed to grow it out all wild and gangly to the length you desire and only at that point trim it. That could be why you're not getting the desired growth.

Regarding sideburns, I didn't have any trouble in that area. Each individual is different. I don't like the gap between my 'stauche and cheek growth but there's nothing I can do about it. Some places just don't grow hair.

Above all, patience is required. It took me about three weeks to get modest coverage (that's when I started trimming). Over several months it filled in a bit more.

Shampoo it is. Do you also comb your face?

"do you also comb your face" hahah oh man, this is getting out of hand.

and you know..it probably took david letterman the full two months he was on strike to grow a beard that great and that thick. Give it time.
